New London Barn Playhouse Cabaret Rehearsal

So my youtube profile is not very extensive and I honestly want to get rid of it because it hasn't been actively used for 5 years. At this point I mainly use it to watch other people's videos and I can easily do that without having an account. A majority of the videos are ones I made in the onset of my Barn Playhouse depression. I think that's valid enough reason to delete my account. Do people agree? This is the only video I would keep on there for nostaglic purposes. I wouldn't say it's the best quality but it works for a camera of my caliber.

Easy Street

Currently I am feeling nostalgic and doing a countdown of top 10 favorite songs from my high school chorus days. Annie was the PTA play when I was a senior and my mother played Lily St Regis. I am including this song in the countdown though technically I did not sing it in chorus. If marked by an asterick it was a song sung by the Acapella Choir.
Musicals that were done when I was in high school
2001- Crazy For You
2002- HAIR
2003- Cabaret
2004- HMS Pinafore
Here is the complete top 10 list of favorite high school choir songs
1. New York State of Mind Billy Joel
2.Maybe This Time Cabaret
3. Easy Street Annie (2004 PTA Play) and What I Did For Love A Chorus Line (1999 PTA Play)

Guys and Dolls Comparison

I recently saw two productions of Guys and Dolls One on May 20th (Actorsingers) and the other last night (Interlakes Summer Theatre). Both productions featured very talented casts
Actorsingers performed Guys and Dolls May 20-22nd. The Interlakes Summer Theatre production runs until July 3rd. If you are up in the lakes region be sure to get your tickets.

Guys and Dolls is set in New York City and tells the story of a bunch of gamblers. The two main gamblers of focus are Nathan Detorit ( Joe Vago ActoringersCary Mitchell (ISL) and Sky Masterson (David Cote Actorsingers, Matt Zimmerman, ISL). Nathan has been engaed to Adelaide (Donna O Bryant Metzger Actorsingers, Katie Clark ISL) for 14 years and Adelaide is waiting for some sort of commitment fom Nathan. Nathan makes a bet with Sky that he can't take a certain doll to Havana.. Sky has his eyes set on Sarah Brown, a missiornary at the local Save A Soul Mission ( Kathleen Meehan Gorham Actorsingers Caitilin Mesiano ISL) I don't wish to spoil the ending for those who haven't seen the show yet but I will just say it's very heartwrming. Favorite musical numbers included Bushel and A Peck (Adelaide and Hot Box Girls Hot box girls Jen Sassek,Laura Babb,Tina Cassidy,Theresa Chadwick, Jacquline Parish, Laura Prior and Caitlin Thistle Actorsingers, Lisa Bettencourtm Christina Fuscellero, Kayla Picatelli and Sephanie Elzea ISL), More I Cannot Wish You ( Ben Pasucci Actorsingers Bradely Diguid ISL) Luck Be A Lady (Cote and Guys Anthony Breen Tim Lord, ERik Duchesne, Jim Maloney, Don Higgins, Allan Hunter,Mark Coutu,Cam Croteau, Joel Iwaskiewicz,Don Smith-Wisss and Gregg Stephens Actorsingers, Zimmerman and Michael Fisher,Michael Labolsamon,,Phillip Bacotti, Kevin Ray Johnson Michael Dineen and Jay Lambert ISL)I've Never Been In Love Before (Cote and Goreham, Actorsingers, Zimmerman and Meisano ISL) and Sue Me ( Vago and O"Bryant Metzger Acotrsingers, Mitchell and Clark ISL) Sit Down Your Rockin The Boat ( Breen, Actorsingers, Fisher ISL) truly brought down the hosue.

Congratulations to boths casts and production teams on amazing performances.

Fan Fiction help

So I am trying to meet my quota for finishing my fan fiction but for certain stories I seem to have a lot of issues with how to develop the plot. I actually had to totally stop working on one of them becausee I couldn't figure out the best way to make the story make sense. Hopefully I will be able to revist that one before I start my hiatus... if not than perhaps it wasn't meant to be.

Anyway the two fan fictions I am struggling with at the moment are Banished To Lapush a Twilight and Little Shop of Horrors crossover. The general idea of this story is that Orin is sent to LaPush to think over how he treats Audrey.. he meets Jacob Black and befriends him. Would it complicate things to involve Bella and Edward in the story? What do people think?

The second on is called The Audition and it is a Chicago and Cabaret crossover. I really like the idea of combing the two main female leads of Chicago and Cabaret in a fan fiction. They are interesting characters to work with. In this fanfiction (set in Boston) Roxie and Sally meet each other on the train en route to an audition for a commerical for The Gap (this is set in the 60s and I'm not sure if the Gap was opened in the 60s so I may change it to another store) I have actually written the third chapter of this fic but am not sure if I should have them both be cast in the commerical or if one should get chosen over the other) Suggestions will be helpful please.

Read both of these fan fictions and others at http://fanfiction.net/~showtunediva

Thanks in advance for all comments and constructive crticism y'all. If you have played any of the above mentioned characters your insight on the character would be most appreciated.

Man of La Mancha Press Release

Man of La Mancha To Be Performed at Interrlakes Summer Theatre
By Janine Leffler

Man of LaMancha is the second production of the 2011 Season at Interlakes Summer Theatre.. It features Scott Sowinski as Don Quixote, previously seen here in Anything Goes and 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Sheira Feuerstein returns this year as Aldonza, after appearing here last year as Mama Morton in Chicago and Nimue in Camelot.

Feuerstein looks forward to the production. “I'm completely captivated by the music and lyrics, and I'm humbled by the ideas that Cervantes puts forth in its story. I think we've all been in a place where we've grappled with how we feel about the world. I certainly have. I've heard the mantra that if you just believe that your dreams will come true, then they will, and you'll be happy. Well, by it's definition, the "impossible dream" that Don Quixote is chasing will not be realized. And yet, he is the happiest and noblest character in this story because he lives his ideals, despite the fact that his surrounding reality is, objectively, terrible.” She continued by saying “The character I play, Aldonza, is his polar opposite: deeply rooted in her reality and resigned that ideals are not worth having -- that "the world's a dung heap, and we are maggots who crawl on it." Her journey is a challenging one; how do you come out of that feeling when it is so ingrained in and supported by your reality? The very act of just lifting yourself up (or letting someone lift you up), and living by the noblest ideals you can imagine, despite the total futility in it, is overwhelmingly inspiring for me.”

Artistic director Nancy Barry stated that Man of La Mancha is her favorite show.” It is both simple and complex. In many way's it is the story of the "everyman".” She continued by saying “I think people forget how funny this show is. Don Quixote is a madman and his life philosophies and friendship with his squire, Sancho are often hilarious. The score is unforgettable with songs like "Little Bird, Little Bird" and "The Impossible Dream".

Man Of La Mancha is sponsored by Hart’s Turkey Farm.
Man of La Mancha will be performed July 5th- July 17th at Interlakes Summer Theatre, 1 Laker Lane in Meredith. Show times are Tuesday- Saturday 7:30pm and Sundays at 7:00pm with matinees on Wednesday and Thursday at 2:00pm.

Far From Skid Row The final Chapters Chapter 1: The Explanation, a little shop of horrors fanfic - FanFiction.Net

Far From Skid Row The final Chapters Chapter 1: The Explanation, a little shop of horrors fanfic - FanFiction.Net

I would appreciate any feedback on this fan fiction and other fan fictions currently in the works. Feel free to peruse my profile.

For this particular story I was asked to complete someone else's story for them so the original characters are theirs and not mine. I don't own rights to Audrey or Patrick Martin.

It's interesting because I feel I can relate to Patrick Martin in this story mostly because of my Barn Playhouse depression. Naturally I have moved on from the Barn but it's funny that I can connect my expereinces to those of the characters I write about in these fan ficition.

So You Think You Can Dance Top 20

Last week I missed So You Think You Can Dance but no matter because no one went home. Of course this means a double elimination this week.

Top 10 Couples
Ricky and Ryan
Caitlynn and Mitchell
Wadi and Missy
Nick and Iveta
Clarice and Jess
Jordan and Tadd
Miranda and Robert
Melanie and Markoo
Sasha and Alexander
Ashley and Chris

Breakdown of Routines
Bollywood These numbers are always entertaining. This time around the nunmber was done by Nick and Iveta. Very energetic and entertaining though I think Iveta is a stronger dancer than Nick. Rating out of 10: 10
Broadway I perfer Tice Diorio's choreography over Spencer Liff but I thought this routine was outstanding and very well done. Not too familiar with the song though or the show it was from. Rating out of 10: 9
Cha Cha This dance was moderate at best. Wadi and Missy executed the song well but Wadi was very weak in some of his moves and did not compliment Missy well. Rating out of 10: 5
Contemporary Two beautifully chreographed numbers by Stacey Tookey performed by Caitlynn and Mitchell and Clarice and Jess. Both of these pieces were very emotional and powerful. Rating out of 10 C & M: 10 C& J: 9
Hip Hop: Two amazing Nappy Tabs numbers performed by Sasha and Alexander and Miranda and Robert Out of the two Sasha andd Alexander's number won my vote because of the powerful emotion it portrayed. Not to mention the timeliness of the piece as the story line was about a soilder coming home from Afghanistan and earlier this evening President Obama announced his plans for troop withdrawl for the war in Afghanistan AMEN! Ratings out of 10: M&R 6 S&A 10
Jazz Ricky and Ryan and Melaine and Markko excuecuted their numbers quite well and did amazing. Very impressive. Both couples comoliment eachother well. Ratings out of 10 : Both couples got a 9.
Viennese Waltz Jordan and Tadd. Not a HUGE fan of the genre but I thought Jordan and Tadd did very well with this routine. It was very beautiful. Rating out of 10 6

Coming along wonderfully

Last Wednesday we had a Princess KIM play meeting at Toby's house. I am so excited about how well the play is coming along. We did a full read through of the script and it is really quite funny. Andrew also played another song he wrote which was awesome. Getting more excited about this collaboration.

Yesterday I sent a tweet to Cory Monteith who plays Finn on Glee suggesting they should do Shipoopi from Muisic Man as one of the muscal numbers. How will it fit in the story line? I haveen't the slightest idea. Will he even suggest the idea to the producers? Who knwos? Just thought i'd give it a shot anyway.

It would also be cute if Emma and Will sang Til There Was You.

The deal with fan fiction

So here's the deal!

In case you were wondering why I haven't been positing fan fiction in this blog lately it's because I've been swamped with work and obviously that takes top priority. I have been working on a few new fan fictions though and I will try to post something in the next couple days. Generally speaking I have kind of gotten bored with writing fan fiction.
Things that have been keeping my busy and making fan fiction a low prirotiy

  1. My new job at the Y

  2. Writing articles for the Cabinet

  3. My freelance job for Interlakes Summer Theatre

  4. Getting stuf organzied for my Family's annual July 4rh family reunion. Theme: Survivior Broadway

Overall it's been a pretty busy year for me so there were times when I didn't have a lot of time to write fan fiction or complete in progress fics. Here is a lsit of fan fiction I have complete before my July 31st hiatus goes into effect. Name of tv show/movie/musical is in parenthess

C= Crossover

  1. C Banished To Lapush (Twilight/Little Shop of Horros)

  2. C New Found Friends (Little Shop of Horrors/ Guys and Dolls)

  3. C The Audtion (Cabaret/ Chicago)

  4. Reprise (Glee)

  5. From My Standpoint (Little Shop of Horrors)

I also have a whole list of ideas on my profile page that I haven't gotten around to writing about yet. Who knows if I'll get around to those between now and the 31st. Let's hope so. My haitus goes into effect on July 31st because I need to focus on the colloborative effort I am working on with my mom Toby Tarnow and Andrew Cass Princess K.IM. The Musical http://princessskimthemusical.blogspot.com and my own play on Gay Bullying. Right now I am doing some case studies for my gay bullying play and interviewing my friends who are gay about any issues they may have dealt with with coming out and ways they think that gay bullying or simply bullying in general can be prevented. Hopefully people won;t be too uncomfortable with discussing the issue of when they came out.

Recent Milford Cabniet Article

Riverbend Youth Company to present Charlotte’s Web
By Janine Leffler

Get ready for a childhood classic that will warm your heart as Riverbend Youth Company performs Charlotte’s Web, based on the novel by E.B. White. This show consists of two casts of about sixty actors, ages 8-14.

Erica Mairainy, who is co-directing the production with Robin Lacroix, expressed why this production has been so fulfilling, “This show has been so rewarding. Watching the kids form new friendships and grow as actors has been so amazing. These kids are so talented and it’s been a pleasure working with them and getting to know them.” When asked why they chose this show, she went on to say, “We wanted a show that had a nice range of characters and we wanted to make sure it had roles for young ages. The animals and spiders enabled us to include the younger ages. We also wanted a show that would attract families.”

Ten year old Ben Erdody. a fifth grader at Heron Pond Elementary School and Milford is playing the role of Avery. For Erdody the best part of playing his character is “he's sort of a trouble maker, so there's a lot I can do with that character, and that's fun!” He continued by saying. “I'm looking forward to having a big role. In most shows they haven't had roles for kids my age- most of them are for teenagers, and so I was glad to get a big role in the play.”

Charlotte’s Web will be performed this weekend June 16-18 at the Amato Center for The Performing Arts, 56 Mont Vernon Street Milford. Show times are 7:30pm on Friday and Saturday, 10:30 am on Saturday and 2:00pm on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for students/seniors and $5 for children under five.

To be published this Thursday in the Encore section of the Nashua Telegraph. Due to deadline issues it missed the deadline for the Cabinet.

Guys and Dolls Press Release

Guys and Dolls to start off Interlakes Summer Theatre 2011 Season
By Janine Leffler

Interlakes Summer Theatre opens their 2011 Summer Season on June 21st with the classic musical Guys and Dolls. The show features Katie Clark as Miss Adelaide, Cary Mitchell as Nathan Detroit, Caitlin Mesiano as Sarah Brown and Matt Zimmerman as Sky Masterson.

Meisano is very excited about playing the role of Sarah Brown, “So often actors who tackle this role, fall into the ingénue trap and she can seem rather two dimensional. I think there is so much more depth to her character that I can't wait to bring to life. I've found that she is not just your ordinary "goody two-shoes," but that she has a real fire in her.” Mesiano went on to say “This show is so special, too because it presents us with so many of the same challenges we face today; for example falling for the wrong person, then obsessing over how they wouldn't be wrong if you could only change and mold them into what you want them to be. But as we learn time and time again, you can't change people. This lesson of acceptance has really stood the test of time, and I think it's why so many people can relate to the characters in this show.”

The Meredith Bay Colony Club is the proud community sponsor of the Interlakes Summer Theatre and it's production of "Guys and Dolls".

Guys and Dolls will be performed June 21st-July 3rd at Interlakes Summer Theatre, 1 Laker Lane in Meredith. Show times are Thursday-Saturday 7:30pm with matinees on Wednesday and Sunday at 2:30pm. Please note; due to the auditorium being booked, there will be no matinee on Wednesday June 22nd for Guys and Dolls. Come out and enjoy this classic musical in our lovely air conditioned auditorium!

EDIT: The showtimes listed above are incorrect. The correct ones are Tuesday- Saturday 7:30pm Sunday at 7pn and Wednesday and Thursday matiness at 2pm. My deepest apolpgies for comfusion this may cause to anyone.

Interlakes Theatre Summer 2011 Prevoew

Get Ready for Interlakes Summer Theatre’s 2011 Season
By Janine Leffler

Get ready for another season of amazing shows at Interlakes Summer Theatre.
The Main Stage Company will be performing Guys and Dolls, Man of Lamancha, Hairspray, Cabaret and Buddy The Buddy Holly Story.

When it comes to show selection, Artistic Director Nancy Barry offered the following insight; “We decide shows by surveying audience members, combining the tried and true with the new.” Barry considers many things when selecting shows. One key aspect is balance so Barry chooses shows which are not all from the same time period as well as performances that effectively use all the company members. Secondly, Barry makes certain that they will be able to carry the show technically and talent wise. Lastly, availability also comes into play as many other local theatres are in competition for the same actors.

Man of La Mancha is Barry’s favorite show. “It's really inspiring, it's intelligent and it is surprisingly funny- very witty and high comedy. Audience members have told Barry that “Guys and Dolls” is their all-time favorite show. This summer Barry is reviving Buddy The Buddy Holly Story due to its popularity in the 2008 inaugural season. It was a big hit and audience members were dancing in the aisles. Barry expects Buddy The Buddy Holly Story to sell out. Familiar faces, Jason Burrow, Matt Rickard and Nathan Riley will be back to reprise their roles as the Big Bopper, Richie Valens and Buddy Holly respectively.

The Youth Theatre Company will be performing Aladdin, The Aristocats, Tinkerbell and Peter and The Wolf. Rachel Witkovsky is the artistic director for the Youth Theatre program. The company consists of middle school and high school students ages 12-18. When it comes to choosing shows, Witkovsky said “ I know that we usually like to pick at least one show that is more for the girls, one that is more for the boys, and one that meets in the middle.” Witcovsky looks forward to all the shows although she has favorites; “Aladdin and The AristoCats were two of my favorite movies growing up and my parents and I used to listen to Peter and the Wolf on cassette tape in the car.” Tinkerbell is Witkovskys original play. When it comes to directing her own work she says, “I'm really excited about the opportunity. I'm glad that I have someone else helping me, though, because sometimes when you work too closely with your own script. You don't find that extra something from the text that a fresh pair of eyes will find. Sometimes I need to just take a step back from my writings and ask someone else what they think or how they envision a scene.”

First time actress Caitlin Mesiano, a recent graduate of Pace University, is thrilled to be performing in Meredith this summer “I am very excited to be spending my summer in Meredith, as I have heard it is a lovely town, and probably not too much unlike my hometown of Center Moriches on Long Island. I think Meredith with be a great fit for me!” Mesiano is playing Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls and looks forward to playing the role.“I am thrilled to be playing such a classically elegant role, especially because much of musical theater these days has been so contemporized. Don't get me wrong, I love contemporary shows, but there's just something about taking on a role in a show that has so much history that I find refreshing and exciting.”

Scott Sowinski returns for his third season at Interlakes Summer Theatre. He previously appeared in 2008 as Sir Evelyn Oakleigh in Anything Goes and Vice Principal Panch in 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee in 2010. This year he is playing Don Quixote in Man of LaMancha “Don Quixote is one of the best male leads written. It is a huge challenge and one that I hope will be very rewarding. I think that the music is fantastic and it is a beloved piece of theatre that has been moving people for generations.” He goes on to say, “The cast will be amazing as it is the best of the best of Nancy's talent. I think that it will be extraordinary on every level.” Sowinski believes the goal behind Summer Stock Theatre is “To put up productions that speak to an audience. In this case, Nancy asked them what they wanted and responded with this exciting season. Summer stock is about establishing relationships through the theater by giving people who might not always take the chance to see a show, the opportunity to do so. In the case of summer stock, theatre becomes recreation and fully engaging. It brings people a sense of diversion but also brings them inspiring art to watch and applaud.”

You won’t want to miss a single show this summer! Get your tickets soon.
Interlakes Summer Theatre is located at 1 Laker Lane in Meredith. For more information on tickets and show times go to http://interlakestheatre.com/.
