Summer Stock Theatres to Apply at in 2011

So for the past several months as a side activity I have been doing some research on Summer Stock theatres around New England to apply at once I graduate from the tech college in 2011. Here are my top choices
1. Summer Theatre in Meredith Village
2. Weston Playhouse Weston Vermont My friend Paul from NLBP works there. Judging from his pictures it looks like it's a fun place to work. I've been talking to one of his coworkers from last summer on facebook and he highly reccommended that I send my resume into them.
3. Barrington Stage Company Pittsfield Mass I have two connections there, My friend Ashley from theatre @ NEC and my friend Brinn from NLBP. From what I have seen from pictures on facebook it looks it's a pretty good place to work
4. Ogunquit Playhouse Ogunquit Maine I have seen shows there and previous summers and truly enjoyed the atmopsphere of the theatre. Don't really have a lot of connections there though.

Back ups
Mt Washington Valley Theatre in North Conway NH
The Barn Playhouse
Maine State Music Theatre in Brunswick Maine Will Porter is taking such a long time to get back to me hopefully he answers my email that I sent him a few weeks ago soon.
Edit I feel like a moron because I misread Will's bio in the program from CATS MSMT was actually the abbreviation for Muhelnberg Summer Music Theatre in that instance. NOT Maine State. No wonder why he never responded to my email.

Theatre viewing schedule for July and August
Definite:
Grease July 10th Interlakes Theatre
Anything Goes NLBP 8/15
Pending:
CATS Interlakes Theatre July 27-August 8th Maggie and Louie are in this.. yay! Can't wait to hopefully see them in a show again *fingers crossed*

Season 5 So You Think You Can Dance

I have a month interlude in my theatre viewing and review writing. I figured for filler entries I would write about So You Think You Can Dance. The show is in its 5th season there abouts. I started watching it about two years ago and besides American Idol it's my favorite show on Fox. Glee will join the list in September.

This season of So You Think You Can Dance is I think going to be the best one yet. There is such a diverse talent in the group of dancers. Last night was the first performance show for the top 20. Some performances didn't exactly wow me. below is the list of the ones that did.

1. Melissa and Ade. Mellissa is the most seasoned dancer this season as well as the first balllerina they've had on the show. They did a lovely contemporary number which I thought was outstanding. They are one couple I think will go far this season.

2. Randi and Evan This was the most emotional dance I have seen on the show. Very sensual and powerful. Definitley my favorite performance of the night.
3. Ashley and Kupono They did a jazz routine that was based around the theme of Crash Dummies. Very creative and very much enjoyed
4. Jeanine and Phillip Yay! One of the contestants has my name so excited for that because my name isn't very popular. This was also a very emotional piece and very well performed. I hope they stay in.

Runners Up; Auska and Vitolio, Kayla and Jonathan

Results: All my predicted couples made it through to next week

Bottom 6 The person who went home is in bold
1. Auska
2 Karla
3. Paris
4. Jonathan
5. Tony
6. Vitolio

In other news the other night I went to a benefit concert my sister put on for her Ethics Forum. They had a variety of local bands there. I entered late and only stayed for an hour and a half but the one band I liked out of three that I saw was The Mydas Ascension. They were mellow in comparison to they other two bands that played. The concert itself was very well organized and put together. Congrats to all in Ethics Forum for putting together such an awesome event.

Upcoming Shows
July 10th (tenative could change to the 11th or 12th because of my boyfriend's work schedule.) Grease at Interlakes Theatre!! So excited. Grease is one of my favorite shows and my friend Matt Densky from the Barn Playhouse is playing the Teen Angel. So incredibly excited to see him again :)

Deciding which JI show to go see at the Barn Playhouse.

As for the Awards show itself I
thought Whoopi Goldberg was a far better host then Neil Patrick Harris was. There were lots of amazing performances. My favorites ones besides HAIR were Guys and Dolls and West Side Story. I am so honored to have had seen HAIR and am so happy that it won best revival. I do think that Billy Elliot really overshadowed a lot of the other musicals in some ways. Granted I haven't seen it. I guess I'm just a little disappointed that Gavin Creel didn't get best leading actor and Will Swenson didn't get best featured actor. The only predicition of mine that came true besides HAIR for best revival was Karen Olivio for best Featured Actress in a musical.

TOP 3 Shows I must see the next time I go back to New York
Billy Elliot
West Side Story
Shrek

Hannah Montana in Spring Awakening? WTF!!

My thoughts on Miley Cyrus potientially being cast as Wendla in the Spring Awakening movie. (not sure when it is going to be released)
Note: So far this is only speculation and not actullay true.
Granted I am still very sad I never got to see the play on Broadway or on tour but there was a girl who did theatre for Peacock Players , the local acting troupe in Nashua that I had a brief internship for over the winter who was in the original Broadway cast. (Alexandra Socha just in case there are any people from my local area who read this blog.. not sure who does) I've actually gotten mixed reviews from my friends who saw the play some hated it and some loved it. As a fan of Broadway musicals I would say that it would utterly disgust me if Miley Cyrus was cast in the Spring Awakening movie. All recent Disney Channel stars seem to get on my last nerve. The only reason why people even know of her is because her dad is a famous country singer and helped rise to stardom. If she was in the movie the whole flair of the musical would be taken away because all of her teeny-bopper followers would flock to see it. I would assume because there is sexual content in the musical it would not be very suitable for anyone under the age of 13 to partake in seeing. Heck, I saw Dance Flick with my boyfriend last weekend and there was a family of 4 sitting next to me. The youngest girl looked like she was about 11 or 12 and some of the material in that movie is extremely inappropriate for someone that young... anyway back to the topic at hand. For one thing I can't even STAND the show Hannah Montana and the fact that they made a movie out of it sickens me ( no offense to anyone who likes it or knows anyone who likes it) For another thing Miley Cyrus,in my honsest opinion can't sing and has a horrible voice to boot so she would totally ruin the part of Wendla if she were to be cast in it. Hopefully the directors of the movie do not make the mistake of casting her..if they do then I absolutely REFUSE to waste my money on seeing that movie.

Travel through the looking glass with Riverbend Youth Company
By Janine Leffler

Get ready for the adventure of a lifetime as the Riverbend Youth Company presents Looking Glass Land. The moment you set foot in the theatre the colorful costumes and wonderfully designed sets will automatically transform you into a fairytale world like you’ve never seen before.

This award-winning stage adaptation by renowned playwright James DeVita takes Lewis Carroll's original Through the Looking Glass and literally runs with it. This wild adaptation highlights and improvises on the pure, unadulterated fun of the story. The play still retains some of Carroll's deeper meanings, but what it possesses most of all is a huge helping of unabashed silliness! This delightful romp through Alice's looking glass land retains all of the familiar characters such as Alice and Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. It then introduces dozens of new ones: A baseball team, a gospel group called The Responsibilities, a train conductor, a peanut salesman, detectives, a Miss America pageant, star-struck tourists, plastic light saber wielding knights and much more.

The energetic cast consists of elementary and middle school age students from Amherst, Bedford, Hollis, Lydeborough, Milford, Mt Vernon, Merrimack and Wilton. Samantha Ahern, Kaitlin Bagby, Megan Bedard, Sasha Baren-Hughes, Kayla Bullwinkel, Janey Campbell, Matt Campbell, Jennifer Carson, Callie Cinque, Bekkah Clockashure, Molly Desmond, Katie Ebbert, Anastasia Ferraco, Alexandra Figueroa, Claire Foley, Camden Formby-Lavertu, Ciarri Formby-Lavertu, Catherine Hall, Helaine Hall, Megan Hammes, Jack Kane, Kailey Kane, Joey Karlon, Elizabeth Kautz, Abbie Kemmerar, Hans Kemmerar, Madison King, Nicole J. Kubishta, Alyssa Lederhos, Anthony Lopez, Jack Lowell, Sadie Lowell, Kent Maggelet, Brenna McClain, Meghan McKnight, Deveareaux Merchant, Sarah Noyce, Liz Possee, MacKenzie Possee, Maggie Regan, Heather Ries, Michael Robichau, Siobhann Saunders, Timmy Saunders, Katherine Schwope, Melissa Schwope, Jacob Sipos, Julianna Silva, Alex Taylor, Leah Troie and Emily Worral.
Julianna Silva and Sasha Baren- Hughes, who are second graders at Heron Pond Elementary School in Milford agreed that the thing that they have enjoyed the most about being a part of this production is working with all the people in the play and making new friends.

Matt Gamble stated in an interview that what he likes the best about playing his character is “Having an ensemble role is fun because you get more creative freedom with your character then the main roles have.” Memorization has been the biggest challenge for Matt Gamble and Jacob Sipos no matter if it is lines or the poem Jabberwocky. Jabberwocky is part of what adds a sense of nonsense to the show. All cast members that were interviewed shared equal sentiments of nerves and excitement about the upcoming production.

This show is bound to be delightful for all audiences so you won’t want to miss it. The show is May 12-14 at the Amato Center for The Performing Arts at the Souhegan Valley Boys and Girls Club in Milford. Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for students and seniors. Group rates are available

Something small to note

Just for the record:
If Gavin Creel and Will Swenson do not get the Tony for Best Leading/Supporting Actor in a Musical I will SERIOUSLY cry for days on end. They were amazing!!!

So excited for Sunday... full recap after the awards!! :)
